Aging in Place

Being at home is going to be the most comfortable option that you can have. Many tend to institutionalize the look of an Aging in Place remodel but truthfully, it is a luxury. You can have all that you would want, but suitable for your needs as you continue to live in your home. Being able to be at home to age means that you will continue to have an opportunity to remain more independent. You will be able to continue doing many of the things you have always done and enjoy engaging in.

Seven core design elements of an Aging in Place home:

A safe continuous and step free path of travel from the street entrance and / or parking area to a home entrance that is level.

At least one step free entrance into the home.

Doors wide enough to accommodate unimpeded movement between spaces.

A bathroom having a step-free walk in shower.

Reinforced walls around the toilet, shower and bath to support the safe installation of grab rails to support 250-300 pounds.

If home has stairs, they are designed to reduce the likelihood of injury and also enable future adaptation.

A toilet on the ground (or entry) level that provides easy access and all toilets being two and a half inches higher than standard toilet (17-19 inches) or height-adjustable.
